washed up one last time

A quick update on Washed Up and what comes next.

The book is almost finished. I’m hoping to have a firm release date soon, but right now it looks like it will be out sometime in the next month or two.

And when the book comes out, I think this place comes down.

The letters, the Substack, all of it.

Washed Up was never really supposed to become an ongoing publication. I started writing these letters because I needed somewhere to put them. Somewhere along the way, they became a book.

That feels like the right place for them to live.

So once the book is released, I plan to discontinue this Substack and remove the letters from here. Washed Up will exist as what it eventually became: a book.

The writing isn’t stopping, though. It’s just moving.

From here on out, everything I write will live at 39—markets, investing, life, whatever else I can’t stop thinking about:

For a long time I kept those parts of my writing separate. I don’t really see the point anymore. I write about what I’m interested in, and increasingly I think all of it belongs in the same place.

So that’s 39.

I’ll keep Washed Up around until the book is released and use this space to share the release date and anything else about the launch. After that, I’m closing it down.

It feels a little weird deleting something that has meant this much to me.

But I also think that’s the point.

Washed Up became the book.

39 is what comes next.
